ABOUT ABOUT

What happens when an up-an-coming theatre company (Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company) decides to request submissions of new plays to serve as companion pieces to “The African Company Presents Richard III”?

The result: a performance of Carlyle Brown’s historic piece paired with the world premiere of works produced by an up-and-coming playwrights.

Our new interdisciplinary project, “Entering the Griot’s Circle: Narrative Explorations of the Old and New” celebrates the established playwright’s passing the baton to emergent playwrights.

MDGTC'S READING OF THE LADIES OF FRISCITANA, TEXAS

Four homemakers from a small East Texas town of Friscitana vie for the coveted title of Homemaker of the Year at the annual Friscatana Home Show and Family Expo. Although Friscitana women pride themselves on being genteel stewards of southern hospitality, gentility soon gives way to back-biting and murder as the ladies are increasingly blinded by the chance to be crowned number one.

The Ladies of Friscitana, Texas is written by Kay Poiro.

Doors open at 7:30pm with a pre-show meet and greet where wine and dessert will be served.

Q&A with playwright, director and actors to follow.
