What happens when an up-an-coming theatre company (Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company) decides to request submissions of new plays to serve as companion pieces to “The African Company Presents Richard III”?
The result: a performance of Carlyle Brown’s historic piece paired with the world premiere of works produced by an up-and-coming playwrights.
Our new interdisciplinary project, “Entering the Griot’s Circle: Narrative Explorations of the Old and New” celebrates the established playwright’s passing the baton to emergent playwrights.
MDGTC'S READING OF AFRICAN COMPANY PRESENTS RICHARD III
In our reading of Carlyle Brown’s “The African Company Presents Richard III”, we encounter African Americans and white at a crossroads in history, a little known but fascinating historical event that occurred in Manhattan in 1821.
Doors open at 7:30pm with a pre-show meet and greet where wine and dessert will be served.
